Holding the tree, warrior or eagle pose requires an effort in concentration that can lead us to a state of well-being as a reward. A state of well-being that can continue to grow and deepen even further through relaxation exercises. But to you really take full advantage of all the efforts you put in your yoga practice to create this oasis of inner peace? Did you know that positive emotions promote creative thinking and problem solving? So why not sit still for a few more moments in this state of calm, peace and well-being to reflect on a problem that occupies your mind to find a different and maybe even a simpler solution? To be able to do that, you need to learn a new technique called NLP coaching, a solution-oriented mental approach.

Most coaching techniques consist of a supported approach that aims to facilitate the development of the skills necessary to achieve a personal or professional objective, the uniqueness of the NLP approach (neuro-linguistic programming) lies in the fact that it encourages us from the very beginning to become aware of our attitude towards a problematic situation: are we focused on the problem or the solution? Based on a model of communication and change oriented towards actions and solutions, the NLP approach teaches us, that in order to change a problematic pattern of behavior that prevents us from achieving a goal, we first have to change our attitude, our mental state of mind in the face of this problem. But how can we do that?

Be honest with yourself. In general, how do you address an obstacle, a challenge or a problem? Are you used to imagining the worst-case scenario or are you more of a natural solution-oriented person? Hold the verdict for an instant in order for you to see the things as they are. Wherever you are right now, focus your attention on your breathing. Be conscious of your thoughts in that moment. Inhale and exhale to the count of 4, in a natural manner without forcing. If you can, close your eyes, or fixate your gaze on an object. Relax your shoulders, your jaw, your neck, and your hips….Now, let a situation that you are concerned about come to you. What do you see? What are you doing? How do you react? If you realize that your attention is more focused on the problem, the goal of this exercise is now to direct yourself towards the solution in order to open yourself up to new perspectives. Attention, here comes the key element. Still in this calm state of mind, continue to visualize the problematic situation and ask yourself the following question: What do I want instead of what I no longer want in this situation? Now visualize the best-case scenario, yes, the best-case, and give yourself permission to imagine the situation as if it was already solved. What would you feel and be like if you would have already solved the problem you are concerned about? Trust your imagination. Challenge your creativity. What do you see, hear and feel? If your mind tends to drift away from the solution, slowly bring your attention back to your breathing, then repeat the question: What do I want instead of what I no longer want in this situation?

Just like yoga, the NLP technique is a practice. Confronted with a problematic situation, practicing the NLP approach consists in asking ourselves the question that leads us to change our mental posture, to short-circuit and then modify a behavioral pattern that is no longer useful or positive. What do I want instead of what I no longer want in this situation? Using the NLP technique means being in solution mode and also being in question mode. A question is a tool of communication and change, a key that has the power to open the door of our imagination and guide us in the search for a creative solution to satisfy our needs and find the path to a balanced life.
